In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
Alternately add dry ingredients and milk.
Divide into pans and bake for 25–30 mins or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Let cool completely.
Carve & Assemble the Base Cake:
Stack the cakes with buttercream between each layer.
Use a serrated knife to smooth the sides and top, if needed.
Apply a crumb coat (thin layer of buttercream), chill for 30 minutes.
Use a star or ribbon piping tip to pipe the vertical patterns on the sides and top of the base cake.
Dog Topper Instructions
You have two options:
Make the dog from cake scraps and frosting (cake pop-style),
Or use Rice Krispies treats molded into shape (easier to sculpt).
Train the Puppy:
Shape a body, head, legs, and ears from cake pop mixture (crumbled cake + frosting) or Rice Krispies.
Chill in the fridge until firm.
Frost the Puppy:
Use a small star piping tip (#233 or #16) to create the “fur” texture.
Pipe short bursts all over the puppy.
Attach fondant/candy eyes and nose.
Use brown fondant for the collar.
Attach the Puppy to Cake:
Secure the dog on top using buttercream or skewers/dowels.
Pipe extra frosting around the base of the dog to blend it in.
Finishing Touches
Add dollops of frosting around the base of the cake.
Decorate with small candies or fondant for accent.
Tools You’ll Need:
