1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Prepare the Pie Crust
Place the unbaked 9-inch pie crust into a pie dish. Crimp the edges if desired, and set aside.
3. Mix the Wet Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the 1 cup granulated sugar, 1 cup packed brown sugar, and 1 cup softened butter until light and fluffy.
Beat in the 2 large eggs, one at a time, followed by the 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
4. Add the Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the ½ cup all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon baking powder, and ¼ teaspoon salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
5. Fold in the Chocolate Chips and Nuts
Gently fold in the 1½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips and the 1 cup chopped nuts (if using) into the batter.
6. Assemble the Pie
Pour the batter into the prepared pie crust, spreading it out evenly.
7. Bake the Pie
Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 50-55 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. If the crust starts to brown too much, cover the edges with aluminum foil.
8. Cool and Serve
Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool for about 15-20 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
